I had the same problem. I went to linux and tried it for 1-2 months. Problems getting to watch videos, open certain files, flash, java updates, etc, made me go back to Windows. Its just too much of a hassle, mainly with new hardware and software that comes to your door.

I went to Apple and tested the waters. It just works. Dont get drunk on the aesthetics of apple, just turn them off a bit in the options. But, at the end of the day, they make the software AND make the hardware. That is the advantage they have, and you can feel it. Imagine if Microsoft only developed Windows for your specific computer brand or model? Totally different story.

Well I am still curious about your current mobo/setup because I use a Foxconn model god knows what because they don't use normal names and it sucks because they refuse to update drivers so I get issues do to that. The Svchost issue is because any program using dlls runs through the program so that if one goes bad then it won't crash the entire system so thats why there are so many and why the sizes vary. Linux takes patience but if you know what you are doing it can work well. Overall ever since I got my beta copy Vista has run fine so I can't bash it.
