I think you nailed it. I loved dnstuff enough to pony up for a year. During that time the ease of use went down. I'm not re-upping and looking for alternates.

Gday, i have never had a dnsstuff account, but used to use it also when it was free and it was the bomb...

I actually was faced with the same sort of problem like a year or two ago, and was that fed up that i started working on my own tools website in my spare time after work and what not.

Basically it has now evolved to a dedicated site called w3dt.net (short for World Wide Web Domain Tools). Its still a work in progress (and there is a v2 just about to come out in the next month or so) but maybe you should check it out..

There are not as many tools as dnsstuff, but there are over 35 useful dns/network troubleshooting tools that can be performed from online.

Hope it all works out mate.

I signed up with DNSStuff on a 21 day free trial, to their Professional Tools service only (so far as I'm aware).

My diary had a note to review the service before the 21 days was up. I hadn't used the service past the first couple of days of the trial much as I'd found better alternatives, so I'd have certainly cancelled the subscription. However in the early hours of the final day (about 20.5 days after I started using the service) I got emails to tell me that my card had been charged not only $79 for the Professional Tools but also $42 and $99 for two other services that I wasn't aware of.

I've asked DNSStuff for a refund and I'm now awaiting response.

Be careful of DNSStuff; this could be a genuine billing mistake on their part - which is sloppy - or it could be an intentional rip-off.

I was disappointed myself. I've been using intodns.com in the meantime. It works well enough. The report was the only part of dnsstuff I ever used anyway.
