I got the built-in webcam mic working today following this thread: http://ankurjain.org/2007/11/ To summarize: Volume control -> recording tab -> preferences - ensure that "capture" and "Digital" and "Digital Input Source" are selected. Volume control -> recording tab -> preferences – ensure that “capture” and “Digital” and “Digital Input Source” are selected. An options tab should appear.
Volume control -> options tab – for Digital input source choose “Digital Mic 1″
This works fine for Skype and Audacity.
